At my first comic book convention, I discovered the surreal art of Camilla d’Errico. A Canadian artist from Vancouver, Camilla d’Errico paints exquisite images – I love her use of colour. Ethereal and a little bit absurd – her paintings are stunningly beautiful. Manga, Pop Surrealism, Collectibles – and the fact that she is really cool to chat with and grab a signed print from – her booth should always be a mandatory stop on the convention floor.
Camilla’s work blends natural elements with the surreal female creatures who inhabit the creative world she has delicately populated. The subjects of her paintings, wide-eyed, placed into surreal settings where anything can happen – an alligator may become a girl’s pet – she may have antlers, tentacles, or horns – while always demonstrating a refined, delicate beauty regardless of the absurdity of circumstance.
If you are planning to attend a convention in the near future, be sure to look for Camilla – I recommend visiting her. However, if you will not be able to meet the artist in person – you can show your support by following her on social media as well as visit her website and online shop: www.camilladerrico.com
