Last minute Mother’s Day gifts do not have to cost a lot of money.

Rather than paying extra for a late reservation or booking an expensive appointment at the spa, consider trying a DIY approach this year! Pampering Mom yourself can be an excellent opportunity to focus all of your attention on her. Sleuthing around for clues to the perfect gift rarely works and most Moms will tell you that they already have everything they need if you ask. As an adult a DIY gesture screams “I appreciate you” and no longer requires parental supervision to execute (even though it will be as precious to her as the memory she has of ¬†childhood you serving her burnt eggs and toast during an impromptu Mother’s Day breakfast in bed).

So, here are a few excellent suggestions for bonding with Mom this weekend that will raise the bar for your siblings as you knock them out of the running for Mom’s favourite this year!

Tea For Two…

Plan a relaxing afternoon tea with Mom. Set a pretty table, if it is warm enough you could even set up outside in the garden. Tips for great tea – always boil cold water and if you happen to have a kettle with temperature control, pay attention to the label on your tea and make sure you do not boil past the recommended temperature. David’s Tea has some pretty delicious loose-leaf options, check out their website! Also don’t forget to add a few goodies to your table, if you don’t bake, try visiting a local bakery – look for French Macarons as they are a delicate yet delicious treat that come in a variety of colours.

A Pretty Face? I got it From my Mama…¬†

Skin care can be a lot of fun and very relaxing. A mud mask or a facial with a gentle massage can be pure heaven for your skin. You do not need expensive products to do it, you can make your own scrubs etc. with some simple ingredients from your local grocer and health food shop – all-natural is recommended. Pinterest is full of great ideas like this DIY Chocolate one!

Try a Little Tenderness – For Her Tresses…¬†

A hair treatment will leave Mom’s hair looking fabulous! If you want to try your hand at a little scalp massage, an oil treatment/massage will both relax your mother and condition her hair – two indulgences with one simple effort!

Sugar – Yes Please…

A sugar scrub for the body may be a bit messy but so were you as a child! Make your own sugar scrub and give Mom the royal spa treatment. Request that she bring her swimsuit, make sure you have a nice comfy robe for her to wear and prep your powder room like it’s a 5 star hotel with fresh fluffy towels, candles and flowers. Once you have completed the body scrub treatment you can leave Mom to shower or bathe in peace while you prepare a healthy snack and some delicious cucumber or lemon water to keep hydrated – just like the spa would.
