3 Rainy Day Playlists for a Friend, Scaling the Precipice

“The climb is tough, but the view from the top is worth it.”

Dashing into the little diner on the corner to escape the pouring rain while reflecting on past playlists with a good friend – a Wednesday lunch hour well spent. We agree that a well-crafted playlist can set the right mood for anything, and as a music writer I definitely love a strategic playlist.

So this is how, after a relatively disappointing meal, I was assigned a new Wednesday task to help warm up for all of the novel writing and editing on my agenda today. We parted ways to return to our respective disciplines – a business meeting for one of us and some solitary confinement (with a plethora of noisy keystrokes) for the other.

Rushing back to the car to once again escape the persistent downpour, I agree to create a few playlists for her – without a single promise to leave Arianna Grande out of the mix (sorry love, but you’re unfortunately in the Grande zone now – she once nailed an impression of Celine Dion and won me over #sorrynotsorry).

May the ambience in her world over the next 72 hours be as epic as these song choices. May the broken-hearted take inspiration and get back up when someone tries to knock them down.

Start that impromptu nearly-naked solo dance party, call your best mates and plan a real party, get messy drunk with your friends and claim a table to dance on at your local seedy dive bar. However you choose to move on to bigger and better things after a breakup, make sure your speaker volume is always at maximum.
